Programme Structure

With a commitment of 3 to 15 hours of sessions each week, this programme aims to provide the necessary regularity and intensity for optimal learning and developmental progression.

The Four Stages of Our Leap and Learn ABA Programme:

1: Comprehensive Assessment

Upon enrolment, in-depth in-house assessments are conducted during the initial weeks to develop a clear understanding of the child's current competencies and areas needing development.

2: Personalised Intervention Plan

Using the insights gathered, a personalised intervention program is created. This comprehensive plan outlines developmental targets, establishes a timeline, and details the strategies for achieving these objectives through intensive, consistent sessions.

3: Implementation

This stage focuses on the fulfilment of the tailored plan through weekly, intensive, focused, one-on-one sessions, allowing for the steady acquisition and reinforcement of new skills. Additionally, dyad or small group activities are incorporated wherever suitable for promoting social interactions. We ensure the seamless integration of newly-acquired skills into a child's everyday activities, promoting independent use of these abilities. Incorporating a home care plan and engaging caregivers in sessions are key aspects of the Leap and Learn programme, ensuring learning extends into a child's natural settings.

4: Evaluation and Adjustment

Data on a child's goals are measured in every session to track progress and adjust the plan as required, thereby ensuring a systematic and uninterrupted journey towards achieving developmental goals. We commit to maintaining open lines of communication, providing termly in-person meetings to review the child's goals, and offering weekly updates on session progress.

Leap and Learn ABA Programme FAQ

Here, we address some common queries to help you understand more about our approach and how we support your child's growth and development.

What is ABA?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a practice that applies the scientific principles of learning and motivation to teach skills that enable a child to thrive in various aspects of their lives. It focuses on using positive reinforcement to support meaningful behavioural changes that benefits the child, families, and communities.

Do you offer group sessions as part of the Leap and Learn ABA Programme?

While our programme primarily emphasises intensive one-on-one sessions for children aged one to eight years to develop critical skills, we do offer opportunities for group interaction. If there are other children enrolled in the same programme and time slot, we can organise dyad or small group activities for children with similar developmental goals and abilities as part of the session. Note that individualised intervention remains our main approach.

For families interested in combining individual and group learning, we provide the option of daily group sessions as part of our EIC preschool programme for children aged 4-8. This combination allows for a well-rounded educational journey, blending personalised development with the advantages of group learning.

When is my child eligible for the EIC Preschool?

The EIC Preschool welcomes children from the ages of 4 to 8 years old. Our programme features small-group interventions and a comprehensive curriculum aimed at ensuring school readiness.

What is the recommended frequency and intensity of the sessions?

To enhance the programme's impact, we suggest starting with a minimum of five hours of targeted intervention per week. While in-depth studies have shown that 30-40 hours per week can significantly improve learning outcomes, we recognize that family schedules and commitments can vary. Therefore, our programmes are designed with flexibility in mind, weaving at least five focused hours each week into your child's existing schedule, including routine preschool activities. This integrated approach ensures a well-rounded and effective experience.

What is the duration of each session?

Sessions are offered for a minimum duration of one hour. Depending on your child's schedule and attentiveness, we offer extended sessions in half-hour increments up to and beyond 3 hours. We recommend choosing a time slot when your child is well-rested and most engaged, which is typically after sufficient sleep or naps.

How long does each learning plan last?

Our learning plans are dynamic, lasting typically 12 weeks. They adapt to your child's progress and the emergence of new, more pressing needs. This flexible approach ensures that we are always addressing the most relevant and immediate areas for development.

Is an intake assessment necessary if we have a paediatrician's report?

An intake assessment is essential for our behaviour analyst to develop a preliminary plan based on an educational perspective and assess your child's baseline skills. The paediatrician's report is greatly valued as it adds further detail and insight into your child's needs.

Can I bring my child once a week for a three-hour session instead of three times a week for an hour each?

For our youngest learners in the Leap and Learn programme, the structure of the sessions is designed with their developmental stages in mind. While it might seem convenient to have fewer, longer sessions, multiple factors make shorter, more frequent engagements more beneficial:

  • Attention Span: Toddlers have shorter attention spans. One-hour sessions are more suited to keeping them engaged and focused without overwhelming them.
  • Retention: Frequent exposure with shorter gaps between sessions helps reinforce learning and aids retention, crucial at this developmental stage.
  • Skill Acquisition: Regular practice with consistent reinforcement over three sessions per week ensures skills are acquired effectively and become habituated.
  • Progress Monitoring: More frequent sessions allow our interventionists to closely monitor progress and make timely adjustments to the learning plan.

We understand the need for flexibility and will gladly discuss how we might best accommodate your schedule while ensuring that the programme remains effective and beneficial for your child

What is covered during a session?

Each Leap and Learn ABA session is tailored to meet your child's specific developmental, behavioural and educational needs, complemented by a learning plan with specific targets. Our comprehensive curriculum covers language development, core academic skills in literacy and math, emotional and social competences, fine motor skills improvement, receptive and expressive communication, imitation, play, social interaction, behavioural modification, adaptive skills for daily living, integration of functional routines, and the encouragement of spontaneous language use in various contexts.

What does a Leap and Learn ABA session look like?

While each ABA session may look different from one child to the next, our focus is to ensure that your child is learning while having fun! Our interventionists leverage your child's favourite activities, preferred toys, and hobbies within our learning targets to facilitate skill acquisition. We use a mix of structured teaching environments and naturalistic environment training to foster generalisation of core developmental skills.

Who will be in my child's team?

Our Leap and Learn ABA Programme has your child's long term success in mind. To ensure generalisation of skills taught, a child's team would typically consist of at least two interventionists. Your child's learning plan will continuously be overseen by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA).

What is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a highly trained professional with a graduate-level certification in behaviour analysis. BCBAs design, oversee, and supervise individualised intervention plans to support learners in developing new skills. They work closely with interventionists to ensure effective implementation and optimal outcomes for each learner.

Do you offer home-based and shadow support programmes?

While the core of our Leap and Learn ABA Programme takes place on-site at the EIC for optimal learning experiences, we understand that the needs of every family are different. We are open to discussing and arranging home-based programmes and shadow support as necessary, ensuring that each child receives the support they need in the most beneficial setting for their development.

Should you have additional questions or require further clarification, please feel free to reach out to our team. We're dedicated to supporting your child's learning and development journey every step of the way.

Session Timing:  Leap and Learn ABA sessions are available from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
